Deptford, N.J. - Tragedy struck Monday night in Deptford Township, NJ, when a bicyclist was killed along Delsea Drive near Brenner Avenue.


According to authorities, the bicyclist was first struck by one vehicle, causing them to fall in the roadway, before being struck again by a second vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with authorities, while the second driver left the scene.

The second driver, Iqrar Ahmad, 18, of Deptford, initially left the scene and returned two hours later, telling authorities he was the driver of the second vehicle. Ahmad said he saw the bicycle and vehicle in the roadway and felt his car strike an object, but did not realize he had struck the bicyclist.


Ahmad has been charged with second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal accident, with a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in state prison if convicted.
