Atlantic City, N.J. - Spirit Airlines, the main carrier out of Atlantic City International Airport, has officially ceased operations.
Spirit Airlines announced at 3 a.m. that it is ceasing operations immediately after 34 years in business. The shutdown has resulted in the cancellation of all flights and the loss of nearly 17,000 jobs. The airline had been serving over a million passengers each month across the country.

The collapse could deal a major blow to Atlantic City Intl. Airport (ACY), where Spirit Airlines serves as the primary carrier and operates the majority of departing flights. Because the airport relies heavily on Spirit’s route network and passenger volume, any disruption to operations would likely have an impact on the airport’s financial stability.
The South Jersey Press reached out to The South Jersey Transportation Authority on Friday, and received the following statement:
“Currently we have not received any notice from Spirit Airlines regarding service changes at the Atlantic City International Airport. We are aware of media reports, but we cannot confirm or comment on speculation”
The South Jersey Press reached out to The South Jersey Transportation Authority on Saturday following the release.
