Cape May, N.J. - The Cape May County Park/Zoo revealed that Buttercup, who gave birth less than a year ago, has given birth once again.


The Cape May County Park/Zoo says Buttercup and her pups are under the careful watch of animal keepers and veterinary staff, but will be able to be seen periodically from the capybara habitat.


FUN FACTS:

  • The Cape May County Zoo has four adult capybara’s: Buttercup, Budette, Goomba, and Marigold. They also have five older capybara pups.

  • Capybara’s are the largest of the rodent family.

  • Capybara’s typically weigh between 75-150 pounds, with females slightly heavier than males.

  • Capybara pups are able to walk around within hours of being born, and can even eat grass as early as one week.
