Ocean City, NJ’s mayoral race is officially underway, as the upcoming May election draws two sitting members of City Council into a challenge against incumbent Mayor Jay Gillian. In a dramatic last-minute move, Councilman Pete Madden filed his candidacy jut minutes before today's deadline, setting the stage for a closely watched contest.

Both Keith Hartzell and Pete Madden bring more than a decade of experience in Ocean City government to the race. Hartzell previously mounted a strong challenge in 2022, falling to Gillian by fewer than 400 votes in a closely contested election.
