Linwood, N.J. - Mainland Regional High School’s baseball program is undergoing a leadership change following the abrupt resignation of three coaches, including head coach Joe Smith on Sunday. The resignations came days after an assistant coach was removed on Friday in connection with the alleged incident in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The leadership change comes after Mainland Regional played just one regular-season game. Billy Kern, Mainland’s athletic director and former baseball coach, will oversee the program while the school conducts a search for a replacement.

According to multiple sources, the allegation concerns a possible incident tied to an adult entertainment venue. Mainland Regional’s Superintendent Mark Marrone gave parents brief details in a meeting, but said some details couldn’t be revealed at this time due to the ongoing investigation. Superintendent Marrone made it clear zero players/students were involved in the alleged incident.

Because school officials have provided limited public detail, significant questions about the circumstances surrounding the recent changes remain unanswered. The South Jersey Press will continue to follow the story and update reporting as additional verified information becomes available.
